Meet your midwife

Hello, I’m Emily.

  • Independent prescriber
  • Aromatherapy trained

Background

[Heading for Emily’s story]

[Emily’s story, in her own words: where she trained, how long she has been a midwife, and her experience of hospital and home births.]

[Why she started teaching Ready for Birth and Ready for Feeding, and what she hopes couples take away from them.]

[Anything personal she is happy to share: family, where she lives locally, life outside work.]

On the labour ward

Things I say every shift.

  • “This is tough, but you are tougher.”

  • “Fresh cool air in, soft warm air out.”

  • “Shoulders down. We don’t wear them as earrings.”

  • “No is a complete sentence.”

A midwife’s notes

Early labour: five things that help.

  1. Fuel your body

Keep sipping, and eat little and often.

  2. Rest while you can

    Don’t chase labour. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

  3. Set the room

Low lights, quiet voices, music on: oxytocin likes calm.

  4. Try the Miles Circuit

Three positions to help your baby find a good position.

  5. Hand expressing

A gentle oxytocin boost if contractions are irregular.
